To select groups of images for browsing, use the dropdown menus. To begin, look for a blank dropdown menu in the upper left portion of the screen.  Select “lower” or “upper” jaw.  Next a second dropdown menu will open below and select family or tribe taxon of interest (for bovids). A third dropdown menu will open for genus selection, a fourth for species, a fifth for age,  a sixth menu for sex (if available), and a final menu for dental view.

If you are interested viewing all images available for the selections in the dropdown menus, click on the “view all" button located below. If are interested in viewing images of a particular selection from the dropdown menu, leave all selection boxes blank below your selection blank and click "veiw all." Thumbnail images of all dentitions for selected categories in the dropdown menus will be displayed. Up to 16 thumbnail images are displayed in the viewer window at a time.  Use the vertical scroll bar on the right to browse all the images for the categories selected.

To view a larger image of one of the thumbnail images, select the thumbnail and click on the "Large Image" or “XL Image” button.  When viewing a larger image, you will find displayed at the top of the screen basic descriptions such as age, common name, upper or lower jaw, dental view and sex, followed by the Smithsonian (USNM) catalogue number of the displayed specimen. The “XL image” view has the following features: scrolling, + / - zoom, and selection of images for grouping and copying to other applications. To return to the screen with your original selection of images, press the “Return to Selection” button at the top right of the screen.
