Globally, climates are changing at an unprecedented rate. How does this affect the health and biology of our closest living cousins, the great apes?
Alexandra Kralick, PhD candidate at University of Pennsylvania, is using clues from her study of orangutan skeletal collections at the Smithsonian to see how their bodies recorded stress, and how that stress is linked to climate change and deforestation. Ultimately, human activity may be changing great ape biology.
Moderator: Briana Pobiner, paleoanthropologist and educator at Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
This Zoom webinar with Alexandra Kralick aired June 17, 2021, as part of the ongoing "HOT (Human Origins Today) Topic" series. Watch a recording here.
