We know that animal species are going extinct at a rapid pace today, and that humans are one of the causal factors. But what about in the past? Did early modern humans hunt large, land-dwelling megafauna to extinction as they migrated to new continents, or is climate change to blame instead? Advait Jukar, a paleontologist and postdoctoral associate at Yale University, shares his knowledge and recently published research on this topic focused on the Indian Subcontinent. This webinar was moderated by Briana Pobiner, paleoanthropologist and educator at Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
The Zoom webinar aired February 18, 2021, as part of the HOT (Human Origins Today) Topic online program series. Watch a recording here.
