HOT (Human Origins Today) Topic - Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History What Chimpanzees Can Tell Us About Human Evolution [ONLINE]
‘Chimp Empire,’ a recent Netflix series, documents the lives of chimpanzees in two groups at Ngogo, Kibale National Park, Uganda. Some viewers have been surprised by how similar the behavior of the Ngogo chimpanzees is to ours.
John Mitani, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, is a primatologist who studies the behavior of apes, our closest living relatives, including the Ngogo chimpanzees. In this presentation, he will discuss similarities and differences between humans and chimpanzees, and how we can use these to understand our evolution.
Moderator: Briana Pobiner, paleoanthropologist and educator at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
This Zoom webinar with John Mitani will air live on February 15, 2024 as part of the ongoing "HOT (Human Origins Today) Topic" series.
